Introduction to Cartonnage - Two Day Workshop Hokitika Saturday and Sunday 15-16 April 2023
"An Introduction to Cartonnage - the French art of box-making & fabric covered boxes".
When? Saturday and Sunday 15th & 16th April 2023
Where? 139 Hampden Street, Hokitika
What's it all about? During this 2 day workshop you will learn the basic techniques used in constructing and decorating beautiful boxes and other items, such as photo frames and notebook / journal covers.
Using 100% recycled 3mm board we will begin by experimenting with samples of card, glues & fabrics to get a feel for the materials and tools used in Cartonnage. We will then go on to make a large box with a lift out tray and hinged lid from a supplied laser-cut kit, measuring 21cm x 14cm x 9cm which will be just perfect for jewelry, cosmetics or all your sewing bits and bobs. Time permitting, the lift-out tray will be constructed and decorated during the workshop, but on the understanding that it may be necessary to take and complete at home. Everything will be provided for you to do this.
What experience do I need? The boxes aren't difficult, but previous crafting experience certainly would be an advantage. If you're a beginner crafter or a junior crafter, then come along to the 1 day course instead. I promise you a GREAT time!!!
Everything needed to make this box is included in the course fee except your fabric. Details of what you need will be emailed to you. Be sure to read our cancellation policy for this workshop.
